Shirley Ann Booher Mitchell, 75, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. She was born July 31, 1950 in Roanoke County, Virginia to the late William Lee Booher and Edna Evonne Hartsock Booher.

Shirley grew up in Bristol, Virginia, alongside her sisters, Patricia Wilson and Alice Baughn. In 1968, she married the love of her life, Roy W. Mitchell in South Carolina, together they raised six children centered on family and love. Once her children were older, she obtained her N.C. Real Estate and Life Insurance License. Shirley went to work for Liberty Life Insurance where she truly enjoyed her career, coworkers, and the many people she served in her community. She had a lifelong passion for gardening, she filled her yard with beautiful flowers and flowering shrubs, among her favorites were roses, tulips, rose of sharon, knockout red and white roses and many more. She loved all nature, bird watching, deer and rabbits, watching the many hummingbirds at the feeders, also they raised many stray dogs and cats through the years.

One of her favorite things was to have a cup of coffee with Roy on the front porch before starting their day. Shirley enjoyed watching her soaps, she was an avid reader of many genres. She loved music and dancing, going out with her daughters, sisters and friends. She loved trying new things and never met a stranger, she made friends wherever her adventures took her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Roy Whitaker Mitchell; children, Korina Johnson (Kyle), Lee Mitchell (Lori), and Tina Mitchell; sisters, Patricia Wilson (Francis) and Alice Baughn (Larry); four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Mitchell; sons, William Mitchell and Roy Mitchell Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, NC.

Shirley will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of family, her beautiful gardens, her warm smile, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her memory will live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
