Burlington, NC Shirley Ann Carr Smith, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Hospice Home. She was a native of Wayne County and the wife of the late Gary Lester Smith. Shirley was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the Bykota Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Baptist Women on Mission. Shirley was a lady of great faith facing her many physical challenges with optimism and joy. She was a petite lady with a radiance that will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Carr Clarke of Portland, Oregon and a son, Johnathan Hugh Taylor of Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Andy Sornsen, Bobbie Sornsen, Shannon Cornell, Amanda Taylor and Michelle Taylor, great grandchildren, Cody and Michael Sornsen; sisters, Inez Carr of Wilmington, NC and Virginia Melton of Asheville, NC; brother, Hugh Carr of Bowling Springs, NC and a sister-in-law, Judy Whitt of Hickory, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Victor and Eliza Weddle Carr; sister, Juanita Sykes. A Celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and the graveside service will be held at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
