Stuart Nelson Brandt, 65, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Alamance Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1961 in Lexington, KY.
While he was a current member of Macedonia Lutheran Church, Stuart attended many Lutheran churches in his lifetime where he was an active participant. He was very passionate about his faith and sharing the Gospel with others. Stuart’s favorite pastime was being involved with U.S. military living history from various eras. He was an avid member of Living History and Associates of North Carolina as well as a volunteer with the USS NC. He greatly enjoyed learning and spreading his knowledge to the general public. Even though he did not personally serve in the military, he used living history as a way to honor those that have served our country.
Stuart’s professional journey was marked by tireless work and expertise as a Manufacturing/Process Engineer. He really enjoyed being a hands-on problem solver. Over the years, he contributed his talents to several notable employers, including Matcor, Steelcase, Channel Master, GKN, Dialight, Mettler-Toledo, etc., His career was an embodiment of perseverance and skill.
One of Stuart’s proudest accomplishments was his lifelong dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, including their various programs. As an Eagle Scout himself, he was deeply committed to passing on the organization's traditions and values. He spent years leading his sons' troops as well as others, guiding young boys and girls to "Be Prepared" and helping them develop into strong, confident leaders. This enduring commitment underscored his belief in the power of mentorship, camaraderie, and community-building.
Outside of work and volunteering, Stuart treasured the joy found in spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking his grandsons to participate in the kid’s workshops at Lowe's and Home Depot as well as various day trips.
He is survived by his loving children, Erin Summers and her husband Dusty, Alan Brandt and his wife Ashley, and James “Jeb” Brandt and his fiancée Grace Senior; his grandsons that he adored, Bentley Brandt, Jack Summers, Barrett Brandt, Luke Summers and Andrew Summers; his father, Frederick Nelson Brandt; his sister, MaryBeth Brandt; his brothers, Kyle Brandt and his wife Nancy, and Nathan Brandt and his wife Chhoan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Frick Brandt. Stuart has now been reunited with his loving wife of 33 years, Lisa Bernhardt Brandt, who passed away in 2016.
