With quiet grace, Sylvia Ann Crutchfield Brackett’s remarkable journey came to a gentle close on Friday, August 14, 2026—Sylvia was born in Alamance County to the late James Holton Crutchfield and Mary Olivia Allred Crutchfield on October 14, 1941. Sylvia began life amidst North Carolina’s rolling hills—a place whose beauty and warmth she carried within her for all her days.
To those who knew her, Sylvia’s name evokes memories of generosity, humour, and an adventurous spirit. Her life’s story is woven with moments of perseverance, deep compassion for the vulnerable, and the love of animals. After she graduated from Appalachian University, she worked for the Alamance County school system, being a huge support for the young people that crossed her path. Later she opened her own Psychotherapist business with her best friend Carolyn.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristen Brackett Rogers; son, David Kelly; grandchildren, Abner and Atticus Rogers.
Sylvia’s story now enters the tapestry of memory—woven and cherished in the hearts of all who knew her. Her lasting legacy is not only in the years she counted, but in the lives she touched. Sylvia never met an animal she didn't love, and had an open door policy for any animal in need. In Sylvia's honor please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Alamance County, 2213 Edgewood Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
