Thomas Harl Kirk

Thomas Harl “Tom” Kirk, 80, of Elon went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 26, 2026 at his residence. He was born in Mingo County, WV to the late Eugene and Margaret Pinson Kirk and was married for 3 years to Linda Barbour Kerns Kirk who survives.

He was a faithful and devoted member of Holly Hill Baptist Church. Tom was formerly employed by General Dynamics where he worked as a machinist and was also part of the team which made modifications to the M1A1 Abrams, the main battle tank of the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps. He also enjoyed classical music, country music, trips to the beach and most especially his faithful canine companions.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; stepchildren, Travis Johnson and wife Paula, Melinda Huff, Eric Kerns and wife Angie, and Bily Ray Kirk and wife Teresa; step grandchildren, Bethanie Jones and husband Delvin, Zahcary Kerns and Joshua Kerns. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen May Zook, his parents and several siblings.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 29, 2026 at Pine Hill Cemetery by Dr. Gene Hunsinger.
