Thomas Joseph Policastro, 69, of South Fairway Drive in Burlington, died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, following several years of illness. He was born August 20, 1937, in North Bergen, New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964, stationed in Germany and France with the Army Intelligence Agency. After his military service, Tom was a disc jockey with WCDL radio in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. He later received his bachelors and masters degrees from Pennsylvania State University. Tom held economic development positions in Indiana and Richmond, Virginia before moving to Burlington in 1976 to serve as economic developer for Alamance County. He was also active in the North Carolina Economic Developers Association, serving as a Past-President. With a life long dream of teaching, he retired from economic development in 1985 and became an instructor at Alamance Community College. Tom was the son of the late Anthony Policastro and Nancy Policastro, who survives. He is also survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Betsy Templeton Policastro; his son, T. John Policastro and daughter-in-law, Lynn K. Policastro of Raleigh, his daughter, Christine Maria Policastro Johnson and son-in-law Casey L. Johnson of Mebane; grandsons Alexander and Griffin and granddaughters Mary Elizabeth and Madeline; his sister, Maria Policastro. The family requests that friends be received from 3-5 pm.
