Thomas Shambley, Sr.

Thomas Gordon Shambley, Sr., age 74, of 2503 Columbine Lane went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Alfred Green Shambley, Sr. and the late Pearl Bailiff Shambley and was married for over 55 years to Marie Workman Shambley, who survives. Gordon retired from Copeland Fabrics after 53 years of service. He was a member of West Burlington Church of God and he previously served in the National Guard. Gordon is survived by his wife of the home; five sons, Terry Glen Shambley and his wife, Vivian Fields Shambley, of Burlington, David Wayne Shambley of Carolina Beach, Larry Dale Shambley and his wife, Donna Shreve Shambley, of Burlington, Thomas Gordon Shambley, Jr. of Burlington, and Douglas Olin Shambley and his wife, Jill Rains Shambley, of Elon; nine grandchildren, Ashleigh, Brandon, Christian, Nikki, Amber, Erica, Matthew, Chelsea and Brayden; three step grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Cox and Carla Cantrell; a step great grandchild, Bradley Reed; a brother, David "Joe" Shambley and his wife, Georgie, of Burlington; and a sister, Elsie Shambley Turner of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ricky Thomas Shambley; a step grandson, Richard Cantrell, Jr.; five brothers, Jasper "Red" Shambley, Paul Selottes Shambley, Walter Lee Shambley, Alfred Green Shambley, Jr., and Winfred Shambley; two sisters, Violet Shambley and Peggy Roney; and a half sister, Margaret Shambley Moize. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 15, 2009 at West Burlington Church of God by the Rev. Olin Tatum. Interment will follow at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
