Travis Len Johnson

March 7, 1979 — September 15, 2022

Elon

Travis Len Johnson, 43, of Elon, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 15, 2022. He was born March 7, 1979 in Alamance County to Kenneth Lee Johnson, Sr. and Linda Rose Johnson and was the husband of 17 years to Jamie Swanger Johnson of the home.

Travis grew up attending Riverside Baptist Church and after meeting his sweetheart, Jamie, would join Peoples Memorial Christian Church where he taught in the children’s department, sang in the choir and served in many other capacities. Most recently he and his family attended Harvest Baptist Church.

Travis was a friend to many.  He enjoyed people and soaked up as much attention as he could get.  As extroverted as they come, he never met a stranger, often going out of his way to speak to anyone who would listen.  He had a gift of making people feel important and heard, and possessed a unique sense of humor, causing people to laugh even at his worst jokes, TikTok videos or funny memes. However, if he wanted to talk, a simple phone call wasn’t always enough, as he would often feel the need to Facetime in order to tell you about a crazy deal he found or who he ran into that day.

Travis loved golf and was an avid Braves, Duke and Panthers fan. He worked at Labcorp for nearly 20 years, moving his way up to a new position he was to begin very soon. He loved his coworkers and cultivated friendships with many local and distant fellow employees.  He enjoyed long nights playing cards with his closest friends, Lacy, Josh and Brad and most Sunday evenings he’d spend with his family for food, fellowship and games like cornhole or Mafia.

Travis, aka “Bigdawg”, had a heart truly larger than himself.  He was kind, generous and full of life. He was immensely loved by his parents and was an extraordinary son, always making sure they were taken care of and their needs were met.

Travis is survived by his wife, Jamie; daughter, Karlee Diane Johnson; parents, Ken & Linda Johnson; brothers, Michael Johnson and Kenneth Lee Johnson, Jr.; parents-in-law, Darrell and Karen Swanger; sister-in-law, Angie Davis and fiancé, Chris Bunting; brother-in-law, Michael Swanger and wife, Ashley; nieces and nephews, Morgan and Madison Davis, Leigha, Leighton, Madden, McKinleigh and Lawson Swanger, and Mikala Johnson and her daughter Scarlett; and his canine companions, Beaslee and Rudy.

Travis was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William Dubert Johnson and Lora Self and maternal grandparents, Charlie and Louise Rose.

A celebration of Travis’s life will be held at 3 PM on Monday, September 19, 2022 at Riverside Baptist Church, with Rev. Bob Stevenson, Pastor Steve Janicello, and Pastor Daniel Webster officiating.  The burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery following the service.  The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at his home.

With the many things Travis cherished, none compared to his wife and daughter, both of whom he loved deeply.  Words can’t express the deep sadness we feel as a family and the void that is now in each of our hearts.  He was a faithful and loving husband, father, son and friend and will be missed by the many lives God allowed him to touch. We are grieved for his absence, but rejoice, for surely he has made it to his eternal home!

In honor of Travis, the family has requested anyone who is able and willing, to attend the service in Braves, Duke or Panthers attire.
