Virginia Cross Gammon, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Compass Healthcare in Mebane. She was born in Caswell County and was the daughter of the late Lindsay Franklin Cross and Emma Ezell Arnold Cross.
Virginia worked several years for Copland Fabrics and later retired from Carolina Box Company. She loved her church and was the oldest member at Grace Baptist Church. Virginia loved cooking, especially baking cakes. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who truly loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Mandi L. Gammon and Katheryn G. Huffines and great grandchildren, Trevor D. Mann (Kasey), Hayden B. Huffines and Ian D. Poteat; sisters, Kay Hatch (Aubrey), Fay Grizzle and Wilma Maness (Steve); brothers, Roy Cross (Linda), Robert Cross (Sue), Junior Cross (Helen) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Berkley Gammon; son, Berkley Levi Gammon; sisters, Cordella Gwynn (Cross) Porter and Shelby Jean Hatch; and brothers, Ervin and Michael Cross.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Grace Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.
