Wayne "Doug" Douglas Underwood, a cherished father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on March 14, 1957, in Alamance County, Doug dedicated his life to serving others, first as a passionate pastor who held a master's degree in divinity, and later as a devoted member of the workforce, lending his talents as a mechanic at County Ford in Graham and most recently with the Postal Service in Guilford County.
Doug was not only defined by his impressive educational achievements, being a proud graduate of Elon University, but also by his unwavering faith and commitment as a follower of Jesus. His faith informed every aspect of his life, guiding his relationships and endeavors.
A motorcycle enthusiast at heart, Doug found great joy both in the open road and in spending quality time with his family. He delighted in riding his beloved Harley Davidson Motorcycle, where the wind against him brought a sense of freedom and adventure that matched his spirit.
He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory forward: his daughter, Jennifer Goldenbaum (Brian); his son, Trevor Underwood (Aspen); and his beloved grandchildren, Jack, Nora, and Cleo. Doug was also deeply loved by his mother, Shirley Underwood, and his brother, Johnny Harrell (Eva), along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who knew him for the warmth and kindness he so freely shared.
A Celebration Service of Doug's life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Shallow Ford Christian Church, with Rev. Steve Ragan officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to AuthorCare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
Doug's legacy is one of love, faith, and service. He touched the lives of countless individuals throughout his journey, leaving behind a profound impact that will be felt for generations. He will be dearly missed, but the memories and lessons he imparted will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
