BURLINGTON- Beverly Jean Alford, 71, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 25, 2020.

A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Shelby and Rachel Pearce Alford. She retired from the Alamance Burlington School System after 36 years as a High School English teacher. Beverly was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church serving in the hand bell choir, WMU Director, Leader of the Women’s Ministry and Church Clerk. She was active in the Mt. Zion Association and the Baptist State Convention of the WMU. Beverly was a member of the NC Retired Teachers’ Association, National Educator Association and Alpha Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma. She lived out her faith in all areas of her life and will greatly be missed. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family and shared joy wherever she went.

Survivors include her sister, Annette Alford Garvey and husband, Jack, of Greensboro; nephew, Jack Garvey, Jr. and husband, Trevor Brothers, of MA; niece, Charlotte Garvey, of Boone; sister-in-law, Julia Webb Alford, of Kannapolis; nephews, Zack Alford and wife, Bebbyn, of SC, and Ben Alford, and wife Alicia, of Charlotte; niece Meredith Alford Bates, and husband Matthew, of Concord. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Floyd Shelby Alford, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers are the Grove Park Baptist Church Lamplighters Class in honor of Beverly and her devotion to her Sunday School Class. You may come by the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from noon until 5pm to sign a guest registry.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, September 28 at 11:00am online (facebook.com/groveparkchurch) from Grove Park Baptist Church by Marc Sanders and Dr. Gene Hunsinger. You may also come to the church and listen in your car at 1700AM. The graveside service will be held the same date at 3:00pm at the Upchurch-Alford Cemetery in Pilot, NC. Everyone in attendance at the church service or graveside is required to wear a mask at all times for the safety of friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beverly Alford Memorial Mission Fund in care of Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215.
