Bill Poland, age74 of 513 Piedmont Way, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 14, 2006. He was the husband of Vera Poland who survives and the son of the late Willie R. and Pearl Grey Poland. Bill worked for Kayser Roth Hosiery for many years as a Supervisor and he loved the workers and they loved him. Bill was a US Navy veteran who served his country with a sense of pride and duty during the Korean War. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church where he enjoyed being a part of the Guiding Light Sunday School Class. Bill was a deacon and he headed up the greeters at the church and enjoyed singing in the Young at Hearts Choir. He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels and Washington Red Skins, but most of all he loved to spend time with his family. He was a loving husband, daddy, and paw paw his family will deeply miss him. Survivors include his wife Vera Poland, daughter and son-in-law; Rhonda Poland Bennett and her husband Tony; granddaughter Emilie Bennett; brother-in-law; Glenville Shipe; nephew, Terry Shipe and his wife Sharon and his Glen Hope Church Family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Izetta Shipe. Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday, July 17, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Glen Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Larry Redding and Rev. Bud Wrenn. Entombment will follow at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Glen Hope Baptist Church, 911 North Avenue, Burlington, NC 27217 or to the Oncology Angels Fund, C/O ARMC Foundation, P.O. Box 202, Burlington, NC 27216.
