Bobby Walker

Bobby Dean Walker, age 80, born on October 18, 1938, died at the home of his daughter, Tammy Wagner, on August 30, 2019, after spending several months in hospice care.

Bob was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served three proselytizing missions (two with his wife) and served as the Bishop of his local congregation, the Burlington Ward, for five years (1970-75). Bob served as a Corporal in the Army Security Agency in the U.S. Army in post-war Korea and in Northern California (1956-59). He held a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English from Brigham Young University. During his life, he worked as a school teacher in Snowflake, Arizona and later in Burlington, North Carolina, as a self-employed salesman, a state Driver’s License Examiner, and a Prison Guard. Bob was a musician, singing, composing music, and playing guitar for most of his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Donella Elizabeth (Beth) Wakefield Walker, to whom he was sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his six children, Max Walker, Julie Kane, Tammy Wagner, April Walker, Holly Walker, and Dean Walker, and by his 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four of his brothers, Clyde Jerry (Jerry), John (Johnny), Eddie, and Danny. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents Clyde Andrew Walker and Helen Robbie Somers Walker McKinney, and four of his siblings: his older brother, Donnie, who died at age 10, his brother and sister, Tony and JoHelen, who both died at or near birth, and by his youngest adult brother, Clyde Andrew (Andy).

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elon. The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 PM Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
