Carla Oakley

Burlington-Carla Sharpe Oakley, 85, the most faithful, beautiful, inspirational lady has entered the gates of heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 28, 2019. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late Jack C. Oakley. She was the daughter of the late Millard Foster and Mabel Lineberry Sharpe.

Carla retired from Burlington Dermatology. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church of Elon, member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. Carla was also a member of the Duke Power Retirees. Carla was an avid Duke fan along with her husband, Jack. She had a servant’s heart, serving in many areas of her church and devoting her time to shut-ins and older Saint’s. She was a true legacy and loved more than words could ever describe. Carla was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Well done, good and faithful one, you have run the race and now you’re home!

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Gilliam and husband, Jeff of Burlington; son, Gary Oakley and wife, Pam of Elon’ grandchildren, Meredith Richardson and husband, Jerry and Allison Oakley and husband, Eric, Martin Oakley and wife, Jessie, Sarah Morgan Oakley Brooks and husband, Jason and Bethany Oakley Jordan and husband, Bo; great grandchildren, Elliott and Olivia Grace Richardson, Wyatt and Ava Gray Oakley, Ivey Ann and Mary Charles Jordan . Piper Brooks and Garrett and Aubrey Oakley. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and two infant brothers.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of ARMC Cancer Center and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their compassionate care for Carla during her illness.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 3:00pm at First United Methodist Church of Elon by Rev. Kellie Gallagher. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45pm prior to the service at the church and other times at home. She will be available for viewing from 3pm Saturday until taken to the church on Sunday. The graveside service will be on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 11:00am at Alamance Memorial Park.
