Eleanor Sue Massey

Eleanor Sue Thomasson Massey passed away 30th December, 2020. A long-time resident of Alamance County, she was born in Alamance County January 23rd 1939 to the late Paul McCauley Thomasson and late Alice Watson Thomasson.

She was the beloved wife of Bernice Lee Massey for 43 years. She leaves behind stepsons, Al Massey (Cathy) and Roger Massey, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and brothers Nick Thomasson and Tripp (Teresa) Thomasson, special daughter Vickey Clapp (Dexter) and many nieces and nephews.  In addition, she leaves behind special friends Becky Garner, Lil Hikes, and Shirley Holmes and numerous other friends.

She is preceded in death by Lawrence Wright, stepson Jerry Wayne Massey, grandson, Ricky Wayne Massey, her sister, Dawn Troxler, brothers-Homer, Dan, Jim, and Greg Thomasson and sisters-in-laws Bobbie, Mildred, Nancy, Nadine Thomasson and brother in law Paul Troxler and her step-father, Claude Campbell.

Also preceding her in death was her special dog, Mason.

Sue was a member of Class of ’57 at Altamahaw-Ossipee High School. She graduated from Alamance Community College with a degree in cosmetology.  Like her sister, she was an avid reader & devoured books. She worked for P. Lorillard for 35 years and made many lifelong friends. She was an avid bluegrass fan and loved their many RV camping trips to bluegrass festivals, Myrtle Beach and the mountains and the many life long friends!

A private Graveside service will be held at the Chapel in Alamance Memorial Park. Reverend J.E. Chip Sellew, Jr. will be officiating the service.  Music will be played by Gary and Cindy Holmes.

Due to the Covid a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family request that the service be limited to immediate family only because of the Covid.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Burlington Cone Health and Bonnie Thompson and the staff of THE HOME PLACE of Burlington as well as the Hospice of Burlington for all their loving care and compassion that was show during her illness.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Children’s Shriner Hospital, Duke Cancer Center, or Authoracare Hospice of Burlington.
