Gerry Helms

Gerry Steven Helms, 61, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at VA Medical Center in Durham.  He was born in Alamance County to Samuel Joe and Elizabeth Lucille Ashby Helms and was married for 43 years to Becky Helms who survives.  Gerry worked for the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office and was a U.S. Army veteran.  He enjoyed playing Santa at Christmas and would make personal home visits then donate the money he received to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Becky Helms; daughter, Amy Rebecca Bowes; grandchildren, Steven Drake Bowes, Daisy Lyn Bowes; sisters, Jo Alice Dickerson (Gary), Yvonne Bright (Randy), Penny Capps (Paul) and a brother, Dean Helms.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Darrell Massey.  The family will receive friends following the service.
