McLeansville Mr. James Alton Brown, 80, of 4803 McConnell Road, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. Mr. Brown was born in Guilford County to the late Eli Rankin Brown and Mattie Gordon Brown. He was the husband of Swannie Farmer Brown, who survives. He was a member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ since 1939 and had serviced as Deacon. He loved to travel and had traveled to 49 of the 50 states. He loved gardening and hunting and was known as an optimistic person with a strong work ethic. Survivors include his wife, Swannie Farmer Brown of the home; two daughters, Susan Brown Skrabo of Davidson, and Gina Brown Pickett of Durham; two sons, James Todd Brown of Greensboro and Jonathan Alton Brown of Greensboro; seven grandchildren, John Russell Pickett, Matthew Gaston Pickett, Meredith Kathryn "Katie" Brown, Mason James, Katie Lawson, Seth Welker, Holli Welker; one great grandchild, Emma Kate Lawson; brother and sister-in-law Charles B. & Jaynee Brown of McLeansville; several special nieces and nephews; special cousins, Clarence and Peggy Brown of Elon, and special neighbors and friends. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Anna Willis Brown and Herman G. Brown. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ by Rev. Lloyd Spencer and Dr. James Crews. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home.
