Jim was born in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in the small town of Golden, Mississippi.  Upon receiving his graduate degree from Mississippi State University, he joined the United States Army for 2 years where he was stationed at Petersburg, VA.  The military draft was still in effect at the end of the Korean war.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn Harris Bunn and grandson Michael Bunn; son, Todd Harris and wife, Brenda Locker Harris along with grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, and Amanda, all of Wake Forest, NC.

Jim enjoyed golf and for many years coordinated a small group of buddies who played every week on different courses throughout the Alamance area.  He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the Men’s Reliable class. In retirement, Jim enjoyed volunteering at the Pet Adoption Center at Haw River Animal Shelter.  For his dependable volunteer service, Jim was recognized by the Burlington City Council in November 2013 as “Volunteer of the Year.”
