Marilyn Rubright

My name is Marnee (Marilyn) Rubright and I died of endometrial cancer at the age of 70 on March 30, 2020.

Just like the movie, I had a wonderful life, filled with many blessings. I was born in a small town in southwestern New York State to parents that expected a boy! My two sisters (who survive, Judi Borland and Sue Stedman) were very disappointed. I became a "tomboy" as a result, climbing trees, playing mumbletey-peg (a game with knives!), and enjoyed unending wiffle ball games with the neighborhood boys.

After studying college catalogs in the guidance office, I decided to pursue a career in laboratory medicine. I had no idea what that was but I excelled in math and science and it seemed appropriate. Off to Rochester Institute of Technology I went to get my degree, not knowing I would be required to kill a rat by beheading! The coursework proved fascinating and challenging. The profession suited me and my curiosity about the human body.

In college, I met the love of my life, Jim, a printing major. We married and five years later, we started a family. Our two daughters, Sharon Foley and Katie Rubright, are our pride and joy. Watching then grow into strong, caring, capable young women has been rewarding. Sharon and husband Jason have given us two precious granddaughters, Nora and Maggie.

At the age of twelve, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. As I matured in my faith, I came to rely on Him more and more. Through numerous surgeries and illnesses, He has stood next to me at all times, giving me strength and courage to face those days. People I met commented on my positive attitude and smile. Knowing Jesus has given

me much joy and the help I have received along the way, gave me hope. Many people loved me, assisted me, cared for me, laughed with me, prayed for me, and taught me how to get through difficult situations. I was blessed beyond measure by knowing all of you.

If you think of me, and would like to do something in honor of my memory, here are some suggestions:

● Show love to everyone you meet.

● Give blood.

● Volunteer at a school, church or library.

● Notice the homeless, poor, and abused and join with others to

change their circumstances.

● Make someone smile today.

● Forgive someone who doesn't deserve it.

● Write a letter to someone and tell them how they positively affected

your life.

● Stop at all lemonade stands run by kids and tell them how good it

tastes.

Writing this has been enjoyable and I encourage you all to do the same.

My deepest gratitude to the team of hospice nurses and aides who cared for me over the last three months.
