Nina Apple

Nina Varner Apple, 98, entered into the presence of her Savior peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was born on April 26, 1922 in Guilford County to the late Grover Cleveland and Mamie Lynch Varner.  She was married for over 50 wonderful years to Leroy Apple who passed away in 1994.

Nina enjoyed simple pleasures like knitting and crocheting, and all types of crafts.  She also enjoyed outside activities and working in her flowers.  She was active in the Gibsonville Senior Center and a member of the AIA (Action In Aging) and the Singing Seniors in Gibsonville.  Her adventurous spirit and passion for travel led her to many exciting places throughout her life, meeting new people and creating amazing memories along the way. Nina’s positive outlook on life was a source of inspiration for everyone who met her. She will always be remembered for her strength, her love, her laugh, and her will to live life to the fullest. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Her greatest sources of joy came when spending time with her daughters and family gatherings.  Nina was a long-time member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher.  She outlived four different Sunday School Classes.

Along with her parents and husband, Nina was preceded in death by her five sisters: Ruth Varner, Christine Foust, Betty Lou Varner, Dorothy McCauley, and Helen Bennet; two brothers: Leroy Varner and J.C. Varner.
Survivors include her two daughters:  Sally Rhodes and Joanna Apple, both of Gibsonville; granddaughter, Kelly Brandon (Robert) of Gibsonville; great grandchildren: Taylor Edwards (Derek), Robbie Brandon (Kaitlin); and great great grandchildren: Brayden Edwards, Paisley Brandon, and Bayleigh Edwards; numerous nieces and nephews; and her little feline cat companion, "Faith."

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nina’s memory to Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC 61 North, Gibsonville, NC 2749, especially the Meals On Wheels program.
