Phillip Hill

Phillip Lewis Hill, 89, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living.  He was born in Wilmington to the late Worth Elwood “Pete” and Laura Elizabeth “Lib” Kelly Hill and was married to Barbara Ann Smith McClure Hill who survives.  He retired from AT&T after 35 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.  Phil taught Sunday school at different churches for over 55 years and was a charter member of Bible Baptist Church where he also served as deacon and chairman of deacons.  He enjoyed Civil War history and participating in Civil War reenactments.  He was a charter member of the Alamance Long Rifle Club, American Legion member and Elon Alumnus.  He was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel which is the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky and is in recognition of an individual’s noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to our community, state, and nation.  Mr. Hill was a U.S. Army and Air Force veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his son, Mark (Marian) Hill; daughters, Rhonda (Eric) Riley, Teresa (Brad) Bradshaw, Melanie (Richard) Hawn; grandchildren, Rachel (Brandon) Bryant, Logan Hill, Magan Hawn, Sarah Bradshaw and sister, Sadie Phillips.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Love Hill, son, Scott Hill, parents and sister, Dorothy “Dot” Overman.

The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Howard Thompson and Rev. Jim Rosser with interment to follow in Graham Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from  6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son, Mark Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd. Burlington,NC 27215.
