Gibsonville- Robert “Bob” Bruce Bennette, 82 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 8, 2021. He was a native of Lanham, Maryland, and the son of the late Chester Bruce Bennette and Margaret Gibson Bennette. He was the husband of over 60 years to Carol Greene Bennette who survives. 

Bob joined the US Army, the week after he and his wife got married and continued to serve in the Army Reserve.  He was a dedicated and active member of Apple’s Chapel since 1974, when they moved to Gibsonville, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in other leadership roles.  He retired from Lucent Technologies after 35 years of working as a purchasing agent.    He was a volunteer fireman with Fire District 28, where he also served on the board of directors for over 42 years.  He served as part of the Gideons International for over 25 years as well as was a member of the American Legion.  Bob was a generous contributor to many charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, CBN Christian Broadcasting Networking and many more.  Bob enjoyed spending time at car shows, showing off his 1947 Ford Truck, boating, but most importantly being with his family and beloved pets. 

He is survived by his wife, Carol Bennette; twin daughters, Darla Sprague and husband, Jeff; Marla Hurley and husband, Glen; grandchildren, Austin Sprague, Caleb Sprague and Wesley Hurley; sisters-in-law, Carol Ann Bennette and Shirley Jane Ulaki, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, James Bennette and John Furey. 

The memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00pm Friday, November 12, 2021 at Apple’s Chapel by Rev. Dave Johnson and Rev. C. Allen Myers III. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:45pm at the church prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bob’s honor to either: Apples Chapel, Gideons International or your local volunteer fire department.
