Ruby Sutton

Elon-Ruby Lee Wright Sutton, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a native of Orange County and the daughter of the late John Andrew and Mamie Berry Wright. She was the wife of the late John Harold Sutton, Sr. who died in 2005.

Ruby was employed for many years in textiles. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. She was a loving and devoted wife and a special grandmother and great grandmother, affectionately called “Maw Maw” by her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, John Harold Sutton, Jr. and wife, Martha of Greensboro, Kathey Howell of Clayton, Thomas Andrew Sutton and wife, Michele of Elon and Teresa Ortega of Elon; 11 grandchildren, Denny Jones, Kathryn Parker, Stephanie Palma, Leslie Parsons, Thomas Sutton, Jr., Chris Sutton, Stephen Sutton, Jeanette Swacker, Lisa Swacker, Tessa Price and James Price; 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and one on the way.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, William and David Wright and her sisters, Irene Lawless and Mary Combs.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by The Rev. Dr. Mark Clark with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:30-1:45 and other times at the home.
