Uwe Beckmann

March 11, 1931 — March 13, 2020

Uwe Beckmann

Uwe was born in Königsberg Germany and was the 7th of 9 children.  His father (Carl Friedrich Leopold Beckmann) was a Lutheran minister in the Confessing Church and his mother was Karoline ne. Poulsen.  The part of the family that survived WWII fled Königsberg and settled in Reutlingen Germany. Uwe attended the University of Stuttgart and received a degree in Electronics Engineering and was a member of the Freie Burschen Stuttgart fraternity.  He moved to the US in 1958 to gain overseas working experience. While in the US, he met and married Anna Kobrynowicz and settled down in New Jersey.

Uwe worked as an electronics engineer and spent over 30 years working for Wandel & Goltermann, a German maker of specialty measurement equipment.  Uwe oversaw manufacturing and helped move the company to the Research Triangle Park in NC in 1984. In 1992, at the age of 61, he started his own company - Delsar Inc. - which developed search and rescue equipment for natural disasters.  Uwe continued growing Delsar until his retirement in 2003.

Uwe was a born engineer and enjoyed fixing things. He learned this from his father and passed this on to his sons.  He rarely called repairmen and did most of his own home repairs and remodeling work. Uwe and Anna also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing.  Over the years they upgraded from tents to pop up trailers to RVs. Uwe and Anna later purchased a beach front cottage at Harkers Island which welcomed many guests throughout the years.  Uwe and Anna are known for their hospitality and generosity and many friends and relatives around the Globe have been blessed by Uwe’s humor and intellect.

They raised four sons - Robert, Thomas, Paul, and Billy - and have a total of 8 grandchildren.  Uwe was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Due to the Coronavirus, the family is planning a memorial service in the coming months.  Plans have not yet been finalized.
