Verdie Rice

Verdie Simmons Rice, 90, passed away Thursday, February 18th at the home of her son and daughter-in-law surrounded by her family.  She was born June 25th, 1930 in Caswell County to the late Berry Washington and Bertha Minor Simmons. Verdie was a dedicated Christian who was a member of Concord Christian Church, where served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.  She enjoyed growing things in the garden, working on the farm and then cooking and sharing with others. She was a wonderful mother, sister, grandparent and a friend to all she knew.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Keith (Carla) Rice; daughter, Gale Reavis; grandchildren, William Berry Mills, Jessi (Ronnie) Miller; great grandchildren, Gracie Dawn Miller, Waylon Ryan Miller; brother, Brodie Simmons; sisters, Lottie Tate, Mona Busick; sisters-in-law like sisters, Wanda Simmons, Dimp Simmons, several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Simmons, Robert Simmons, Elbridge Simmons, Ervin Simmons; sisters, Hattie Smith, Edna Faison and a brother-in-law she loved like a brother Claude W. Tate.

The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Sunday at Concord Christian Church by Rev. Steve Hinton.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Ms. Rice will be available for public viewing 1:00 – 1:45 PM Sunday at the church prior to the service.
