Dawn graduated from Altamahaw-Ossipee High School, where she was a strong student and enjoyed playing basketball.  An avid reader and lover of literature, she devoured books.  She completed a US Postal Service course and later worked for P. Lorillard for 35 years.

After marrying Paul on October 25, 1946, they started their Christian journey together at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Gibsonville, where they raised their children.  They were active members until their health declined.  Dawn was in the choir for 35 years, a Sunday school teacher, and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women serving on various committees.  A devout Christian, reading and studying the bible every day was her passion.  She loved giving to her family and sending inspirational cards to her many friends.

Her eye for detail and creative and artistic side was evident in her needlepoint, flower gardening, elegant taste in home décor and fashion sense.  She studied China painting under the international china painter, Frances Braxton.  Paul and Dawn discovered ballroom dancing in their later years, taking lessons at Mel’s Dance Studio.  They belonged to the Siesta Dance Club and Terpsichore Club making many friends.  She designed most of the ballroom dance gowns she wore.  They traveled often, winning trophies for their dancing talent.  She will be missed by her family, extensive extended family and many friends.

The celebration of life service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Shiloh United Methodist Church by Rev. Ben Bishop and Pastor David Harvin with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family request that the service be limited to family and church family because of the Covid.  At other times the family will be at the daughter’s home in Burlington.
